Wasn't sure where to put him in, so here goes.
Why were kids on tv in the late 70s and early 80s so... dorky looking?
Now, this was just a bit part, but I liked the interaction between the little kid in the forest and Bill especially.
My question is why would they call off the search for a kid in the forest. Even in worse weather, with feet of snow, searches do on for climbers and hikers. Certainly a bit of cold wouldn't stop them from looking for a kid.

Jo's text asks "J Edgar, or Bob Hope?" My vote is Mr. Howell.
But on the question of young Jonathan, I've wondered that too. I don't see any snow, although they say it's coming in (I think we see some flurries.)
Maybe in southern CA, they're used to thinking "below 40 = dead"? Or they've forgotten that we're endothermic? Granted, it was going to be what, his second night out in the open? Not good, granted, but if I was his mother, searchers or not, I'd be out there looking myself, the hell with the authorities. I couldn't believe they were going to call it off so abruptly either.
And yeah, all the brats back then did look dorky, didn't they? I think it was the Eliot thing from ET or something, or that nasally little snot from 8 is Too Much.

Must have been the in-thing to look dorky...don't know...don't remember much of the 80s. I like the scene between Bill and Johnny too...mainly because it helps sterilize Bill's attitude of "I don't want to be doing this." It changes so much that Bill even seems happy to try and do it again at the end of the episode, which is a great character change in my mind. As for calling off the search, there would still be some attempt at searching, but after the second day had wound down, there would be little hope for a boy that age. Second, they would not risk the lives of EVERYONE that had volunteered to save one because then they might be searching for more people after that. I agree with the decision, but I think that there would still be wilderness people looking during the storm anyway.
