What do you think the kids in Mr H's class would grow up to do?
Did Mr. H make a difference? Or did he loose a few along the way?

Rhonda
I think Rhonda went on to Community College after Whitney High. She was bright enough. However, she had to work her way through, probably waiting tables at first, maybe singing when she could.
She got her 2 year degree.
She got a job as a secretary/receptionist for a few years, found a nice guy and settled down for a while.
By 25, she had a kid, left her husband, then decided to go back to school for something more interesting.

CYLERTo me: Most likely to succeed. He had the smarts as it showed in several episodes and the skills to do a lot of things. We know that he can work hard as was depicted in THE LOST DIABLO. I think Mr. H helped him realize his potential and he went on to school...probably 2 year, but it is a start. I think he either went the way of a VERY successful mechanic and had people like Paco working for him if they did not succeed on their own...or he became an FBI agent because he had the right brains and mentality to do so. I could easily see him becoming a top-dog enforcer in the FBI and having somewhat of the same attitude as Bill if not the same approach to law enforcement.

ChaffeyTo me, I see Chaffey as someone who would excel at school and probably went onto a 2 year followed by a four year. I could even see him handling some of the topics like nuclear physics in his college years. I think the reason that he was in Mr. H's class was because he was shy and maybe from a bad neighborhood and was considered like the other students. Just because he has some rough edges does not mean he is dumb...look at Cyler. To me, I see Chaffey as being someone who could easily be a student for life if not harassed all the time by the likes of Tony...and in college, that is sufficiently less likely to happen so I think he would have excelled. I think part of it would be due to Mr. H and helping get him focused and keeping him from straying into the Tonys of the world, but I think a lot of it is inherent in the way he presents himself in episodes...quiet and shy, but able to stand his ground if necessary. I think he might have made a great college professor or diversity trainer.

I think Mr H made a most indelible impression on all of his kids in "special ed." As we see in the pilot, he stands up to them, shows them he's not going to take their b.s. (like Ray apparently did for too long). He also shows that he'll respect them if they respect him. He doesn't automatically expect them to give without giving something back. Like Rhonda points out, Hey, he's trusting us with his kid! I think that did a lot for these allegedly bad kids. And I really like the scene in "Saturday on Sunset Blvd" with Ralph and Tony, when Tony decides he's going to choose Ralph for a friend. You can tell he's very nervous about it, as tough-guy as he always tries to be, but Ralph doesn't reject his offer as I'm sure too many adults have for Tony. And in "Just another three ring circus," when it's BILL of all people who goes to the kids and apparently tells them, You've got to talk to Mr Hinkley, he's really disappointed in how this is going... they go visit him en masse to tell him they're going to retake the test, first for him, and maybe later on for themselves. But it's a good start. Parents or not, I think Ralph, Pam and even Bill have a profound effect on these kids, and make them realize they're so much more than dropping out, or possibly squeaking by in graduating, but then only having a minimum-wage living to look forward to.
So, with all that said, I see this...
TONY - Goes on to trade school, not sure what (probably auto mechanic). Gets a small business loan and sets up his own shop, where he's very popular because he's good, HONEST and fairly-priced, knowing that some folks can't afford all that much to keep their cars working, something they need to do so THEY can keep making an honest living. He's brash and has the tough-guy image going, but his regular customers get to realize he's really a very sweet person inside. Old ladies with old cars won't go to anyone but Villacana's Auto Repair.
RHONDA - Takes a year off from school to work on her singing career, and realizes that even though she's got the talent, she'd better learn something for a day job, and goes to community college. She excels at Writing and Literature, and starts to write her own songs. She takes a night course and learns to play guitar too, and gets to be popular in the coffeehouse scene around L.A., playing her own music on Friday and Saturday nights, while going to school fulltime during the week. As her two years come near an end, she decides to go on to UCLA and complete a degree in education with a minor in musical theory and songwriting. She decides she loves So-Cal and L.A. too much to look for stardom, and contents herself with performing on weekends and working as a music and creative writing teacher during the week at her alma mater, Whitney High.
PACO - As graduation approaches, and military recruiters hit the school looking for kids to sign up, Paco decides to take the ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery). He stuns both himself and Mr. Hinkley when he gets a stunningly good 89 on the test. This serves to boost his confidence in himself, and he decides he wants to enlist in the US Marines. He really hits the books, with Mr H's and Rhonda's help, toward the end of his senior year, and graduates with his friends. He's the first American-born Rodriguez to sign up for the US military, and his family that immigrated from Mexico is very proud of him. His entire family comes to his boot camp graduation (all 87 of them), practically filling an entire section of the bleachers. He finds that life in the military suits him well, and ends up being one of the most highly decorated NCOs in US Marine history. His family's pride swells to the max when he's chosen to be a guard at the White House.
CYLER - He follows Rhonda to the same community college, where they share some classes and camaraderie, being old friends and not knowing anyone else there. Their classes diverge a bit, when Cyler finds a math teacher that, like Mr H, seems to know what's in him. His math teacher introduces him to the wonder of computers and programming, and Cyler's hooked. His teacher encourages him to take all the math and programming classes he can, and to read all of the trade magazines that he can get his hands on. He works a side job, for spending money, and squirrels away a little here and there so that one day he can buy his very own computer set-up (because remember, back then you pretty much had to piece it all together yourself)... his teacher points out an IPO from a company called Microsoft, and tells him, That's where the future is, Cyler. MICROcomputers! Cyler buys some stock, and well... the rest is history, as he says goodbye to So-cal and hello to Western WA. And retires at aged 45 as a millionaire.
The End.

What? No Chaffey? See? He was underrated. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about him to elaborate on where I think he went after Whitney High. Maybe he'll be the next president in 2008, I dunno (that is, if his old high school chums force him into it.)
